Anonymous asked: i just don't see how you can justify reading marvel, which does women/lgbt/people with disabilities/pocs just as bad as dc. it makes you look pretty hypocritical to take such a strong stance against dc by refusing to buy even the books that feature minorities and then turning around and buy marvel. marvel doesn't even have one solo female book rt now. i just really don't see how you justify supporting them when they are worse than dc in every way.
I wouldn’t call Marvel worse.
I wouldn’t call it better, either.
DC was very much a personal threshold for me. I wavered several times, and there are definitely titles I regret not reading. In the end, it was too much shit to put up with in too little time.
For me, personally.
(I am, by the way, particularly picky in what Marvel titles I do buy. I try to support what is represented respectfully as much as I can. If I find a work or author fails on that point - well, either I won’t read it or I won’t pay for it. That’s hard for me to do with the reboot, because the very concept and how it’s transformed the DCU leaves a bad taste in my mouth.)
I’m sorry if I’ve ever implied that Marvel is perfect in this regard, or undermined anyone’s resentment towards it. Fuck, I have a lot of resentment towards Marvel, it just hasn’t reached the boiling over “fuck this i’m out” point yet.
I also don’t mean to seem - sanctimonious or holier than thou because I’m not reading DC. I’ve stuck with it through some heinous shit and I’m not better than anyone for not doing it this time.
