Yes, this is a great point! Even if we’re talking about the same axis of oppression. Homestuck, for example, is rife with ableism of all sorts. As someone with physical and mental illnesses I can still read it. OthersĀ can’t. None of us are wrong here.
People also engage with that bigotry in different ways, and shouldn’t be derided for it. If I want to reconceptualise a text to make it more palatable to me, or write fanfic that deals with the subjects more respectfully, or rant about it vehemently, or refuse to touch it at all - that’s my choice and my business.
